MRI simulator
Virtual reality so children arrive at their MRI knowing what is going to happen.
Project gallery
Capi’s 3D model was generated with Meshy and is used under the CC BY 4.0 licence.
The challenge
For a child, an MRI is a noisy tube where you have to stay still for a long time. Arriving scared means moving, repeated sequences and sometimes a scan that cannot be done.
What we built
We built a virtual-reality experience in a friendly room: Capi does the scan first, then the child lies down, the table slides in —the machine moves, not the child— and the sequences play. A stillness game answers in green or amber, never red, and a way out is always at hand. The first version was mixed reality in Unity; the current one is built in Godot.
The outcome
A demo that runs on the headset and is being shown to imaging centres, so that scan day is not the first time.
